Portraits

Two portraits of a little girl.  I can't read the dates on the postmark but my guess is between 1905 to 1913.

Why do people just slap on the stamps without a moments thought? Colour does not make better portraits...

Coline: I was thinking about you yesterday. Hope that you are both well and keeping warm. In earlier times, the stamp went on the back of the postcard and the address was on the front. It took a long time for people to get used to not putting the stamp on the picture which was, at first, the back of the postcard! Clear as mud, isn't it?

Looking at the hair I think that the hair is in the same place on both pictures and just the face has been reversed!

Hi Anji, often think of you too. We have not been in your area for several years now, this year we went down the centre visiting Chartres, Guedelon and Orradour along many minor roads in real France. Hardly any really good modern postcards on sale and minor heart murmur when told the price of the stamps. After spending all that money they took three weeks to be delivered two weeks after we had returned! Just dreaming about a trip next year and shall keep the Atlantic coast and you in mind...

The price of postage causes us heart attacks too, as it is part of our business. It will be cheaper to deliver the postcards ourselves soon. we follow some of our post and it often seems to get stuck in Paris for up to a week...

I love old post cards. They always took such care to make them appealing to the eye.
I crochet angels and sent two to England.Small packages but 12 and 13 dollars each
package with a card inside for christmas.
highway robbery isn't it?

A Lady's Life: Sorry I've been slow in replying. Yes post is becoming more expensive. The argument in France is that they need to charge extra to make up for fewer letters being sent!
